My Polish Mom's Canned Beets Recipe

April 29, 2019 1 min read

This canned beets recipe was passed down from my Polish Grandmother to my mother who was a first generation Polish American. This card is from circa 1970. You'll need a large basket of beets, a large pot, canning jars, vinegar, sugar, and a sharp knife. Beets are a good source of fiber and my Babcia stored hers in a root cellar.

How To Can Beets

  • Wash beets and cook until soft.
  • Peel off skins and cut into pieces.
  • Prepare the following
  • 1 cup of vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup of sugar

Repeat this until you think you will have enough sauce.
Put the sauce into a cattle with the beats and bring to a boil.

Have sterilized canning jars ready.
Put hot beets and liquid into jars and seal
